Genuine art tells the truth.   ~ Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Part Two: Seeing Things As They Are

Art-making can be an inquiry into what is true. Trungpa Rinpoche taught dharma art as a way of investigating relative truth and absolute truth, which he called "sign" and "symbol." The exercises in Part Two point us in the direction of non-conceptual knowing.

Prerequisite: Shambhala Art Part 1

Anne Anderson Saitzyk was introduced to the Shambhala dharma through the Dharma Art teachings in 1997. She’s a long time Shambhala Art teacher and serves as Director of Contemplative Arts at Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles. She, and a group of other L.A. Shambhala Art teachers, Co-Founded Contemplative Creativity Lab in 2013, a community based monthly gathering. She is a visual artist with an MFA (painting) from Claremont Graduate University. She has been teaching painting and drawing at Art Center College of Design for 25 years and occasionally teaches in other parts of the world.

Angela Lloyd, MFA is a Shambhala Art Teacher and an award winning recording artist, master storyteller and musician. A student of Laura Simms, she started meditating at Laura Simms’ Annual Storytelling Residency in 1987 and is a member of Shambhala. She has completed levels of Miksang, a contemplative practice of photography; and is an enthusiastic member of the Dorje Kasung. Her particular interest in the Shambhala Art teachings is how language arts (speech, silence and humor) are used to create a safe container for inter-related arts experiences for body, mind and speech. www.angelalloyd.com

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
