Where to Start with Meditation

The Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles offers drop-in guided meditation instruction for beginners, or anyone looking to refresh their understanding of mindfulness meditation practice. Meditation instruction is available to anyone, free of charge at any of our Open Meditation Sitting hours. Weekly Dharma Gathering is a weekly intro to meditation class offered at two locations in Eagle Rock and Mar Vista, and includes guided meditation, a talk on meditation and a brief discussion.  Both classes are excellent introduction to meditation.

Wednesdays, 7:30 – 9:00 PM (Westside)

Thursday, 7:30 – 9:00 PM (Eagle Rock)*

Join us for a guided meditation, talk by a senior meditation teacher and a brief discussion.

No reservation needed. $10 – 15 suggested donation.

* Every third Thursday we will feature a DVD talk by renowned Buddhist teacher Pema Chödrön.

Open Meditation Group Sitting

Join us at the any of our Open Sitting Hours and receive free meditation instruction by one of our certified mindfulness meditation instructors.  Please arrive in the session for meditation instruction and at least 30 minutes before sitting schedule ends. This is recommended for beginners, meditators new to the Shambhala meditation technique, or practitioners looking to refresh their practice. Come and sit for 20 minutes or more, anytime during the below times.

Eagle Rock Center in Northeast LA: Sundays (9am – noon), Wednesdays (7:30 pm – 9:30 pm), Fridays (10 am – noon)

Westside Center in Mar Vista: Sundays (9 am – 12:30 pm) 

Orange County Center in Costa Mesa: Sundays (9 am – noon) and Wednesdays (7 pm – 9:30 pm)

No reservation needed. $5 – $10 suggested donation. No one turned away for lack of funds!
