Join us for an experiential session of games. How can we confront fear by learning to be playful?

We will explore what it means to be mindful as you experience a variety of improvisation games.

Can we be kind to ourselves during a playful experience? The enemy to improvisational performance is to be self-critical and to remain burned by a previous mistake.

While you are “on the spot," can you use the moment and pay attention to how you feel physically and emotionally and use that to respond in a scene? How do you respond honestly with what is going on?

Improvisation is more about waking up than being clever. Can you truly be in the moment and listen rather than waiting for your turn?

About the teacher:

Chris Best is the coordinator of Westside Shambhala Center. He is a veteran performer with extensive television, film and stage experience.  He was a founding member LA’s Second City touring company.  He appeared for the three year run of “Specific Hospital,” the Zephyr Theater’s acclaimed improvisation soap opera.  He appeared as a regular on MTV’s “Andy Dick Show” and was in the VH1 pilot “Faking of the Band.” Chris has been an experienced improvisation teacher for adults for the past 20 years where he taught at South Coast Repertory Theater.  Additionally, he uses his improvisation skills to train psychiatrists in interviewing and patient assessments.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
