Author Gayle Van Gils Leads “Happier at Work” Program & Talks in Los Angeles

The following is a guest post by Shastri Gayle Van Gils who will be visiting each of our Southern CA Shambhala centers in early November to sign books and share the work that she is doing to bring compassion into business. Her book, Happier at Work: The Power of Love to Transform the Workplace will be available at those gatherings, and she is looking forward to hearing about your work experiences! A review of her book recently was posted to the Shambhala Times by Sarah Lipton. On November 11, she is offering a full day of practical exercises and explorations that will energize your work day and help you to contribute to making your work and workplace more joyful.

Gayle Van Gils Happer at Work One Day Program in Mar Vista

Gayle Van Gils:

I began my post college business life with a detour Boulder, Colorado to attend summer of courses at what is now Naropa University. There I met the great Tibetan meditation master, Chogyam Trungpa, and was introduced to the vision of Shambhala, which is rooted in the principle that every human being has a fundamental nature of basic goodness. This nature can be developed in daily life so that it radiates out to family, friends, community and society.

I feel so fortunate that I have been able to spend my adult life interweaving my meditation practice and teaching with my life activities in the business, creative and family domains. I have realized that having a core confidence in my own and others goodness has been a platform for living that deeply meaningful life I had been seeking when I took the detour to Naropa after college.

Right now, according to the Shambhala tradition we are living through an age of greed and aggression, where we tend to harm ourselves, each other and our planet. The Shambhala teachings of confidence, compassion, gentleness and fearlessness offer an antidote to this crisis.

These teachings of human goodness have echoed in the stories of humanity for centuries, and in fact came into the Western world through stories of “Shrangri-La”, a place you can only find if you are pure of heart. This word is a muddled spelling of Shambhala. From the stories that have been handed down – long ago, in the Himalayan regions there existed a real or legendary Kingdom of Shambhala, a society that fostered the inherent goodness of its people. Shambhala vision tells us that we can experience that natural source of radiance and brilliance in today’s world.

I invite you to imagine that possibility, and to join me in Los Angeles on November 11th for a day of personal exploration. If you stressed and overwhelmed by work, and looking to change that, the content of our day can help to transform your work experience from that of frustration and stress into a source of creativity and joy.Learn tools to uncover your own goodness, energy and confidence, and how to weave these skills into your work and personal life. We will have fun and lots of exchange as we discover that the mindset we need for a happier work life is already a part of our nature!
