Coming to our senses, with a camera in hand, we can express a connection to our ordinary life with a photograph. Stopping in stillness we are inspired to capture something found in a moment that we appreciate.

Bring your phone cameras for an opportunity to dance into the visual events of our lives, where our eyes and the camera’s eye are synchronized in contemplative photography practice.

Our message is simply one of appreciating the nature of things as they are and expressing it without any struggle of thoughts and fears. We give up aggression, both toward ourselves, that we have to make a special effort to impress people, and toward others, that we can put something over on them.     - Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Darryl Burnham, Shambhala Art teacher, takes photographs on his daily walks. An avid drummer, he just graduated from table knives to real drumsticks. He writes about stuff, reads a lot, exercises, practices letting go and contemplates whatever. He enjoys his partner, Laura, and life––in spite of these challenging and difficult times. He is not a fan of giving up.

Contemplative Creativity Lab (C-Lab) is a contemplative arts group founded at Shambhala Los Angeles that strives to create an environment for art in everyday life to be discovered. With different forms to explore, each gathering has a different theme and a growing roster of artists and teachers.  Featuring ink and brush or storytelling, flower arranging or photography, music, movement, poetry, meditation and community, C-Lab is open to all with a suggested donation. Come as you are! Learn more.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call us at 323-963-3001 to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price (when available) helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
