A Contemplative Creativity Lab for making our transitions visible through art.

How do we honor what we have had to let go of while also facing the unknown of what is to come? Participants can use found objects, movement or gesture to create a space to honor a transition in life. Additionally there will be time for meditation, movement and witnessing each other's work.

Please bring objects (including found objects) that you would like to work with.

No art or meditation experience is required. All are welcome to come explore in a friendly, supportive environment. Please note the location.

Alice Toohey has been a member of Shambhala LA for ten years and has worked as Center Administrator in Eagle Rock for seven of those years. She is currently studying Death Midwifery and serves on the board of the National Home Funeral Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to supporting families and communities in caring for their own at death. She has an MFA in acting and lives in Glendale with husband Sean and daughter, Ayla.

Contemplative Creativity Lab, founded in 2013, is a group of trained Shambhala Art Educators and Special Guests who lead explorations of the Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Every month is different and have included ink and brush, movement, photography and poetry. What links these is the ground of meditation which allows for fresh perception to be in the forefront, rather than trying to make "art". Creating from that place of open mind/heart we call "Square One".

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
