Have you ever been curious about meditation? Or wished you could meditate more regularly?

Designed for people living in these challenging times, this course provides students with introductory tools and teachings for working with meditation in everyday life. By deepening our experience and understanding of ourselves through peaceful abiding meditation, we more fully discover who we are already are with our innate goodness, stability, strength, and clarity.

As we begin to practice on a regular basis, we learn to relax and simply be with whatever is going on in our lives. Over time, this meditation helps us to cultivate courage, humor, and stability in the face of the everyday complexities of jobs, relationships, and all aspects of daily life.

Meditation in Everyday Life combines technique and view in a setting of support and community to provide you with everything you need to build a healthy, strong meditation practice.

About the Way of Shambhala:

Meditation in Everyday Life is the first course in the Way of Shambhala that is an extensive path of training in authentic meditation practices and wisdom teachings. This path is a secular course of practice and study which consists of weekly classes and weekend retreats suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators, and open to people of any spiritual tradition. This comprehensive overview of mindfulness meditation and contemplative living practices presents the profound, simple, and incredibly relevant view that when we foster a more awake and compassionate relationship with ourselves and with others, we are creating a more awake and compassionate world.

About the teachers:

Debra Dysart is a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and has been interested in the Shambhala Buddhist teachings ever since she discovered Pema Chödrön’s Wisdom of No Escape in a Barnes and Nobles in 1997. (She met her husband Malcolm in that same bookstore.) Debra is a Meditation Instructor, Shambhala Art teacher, serves as Acting Director of Education for Shambhala in Eagle Rock, and was a former Center Co-Director of Shambhala Los Angeles. She sings with the Verdi Chorus and serves on its board of directors.

Jenny Hannah has been involved with the LA Shambhala Center for over 10 years. She has held many leadership roles in the LA Shambhala community and currently serves as director of Societal Health and Wellbeing. Off the cushion, she works as a yoga instructor, art therapist, and wellness counselor at University of the West, a college based on Buddhist Principles. Jenny is also an artist, currently making work on intersubjectivity and mirror neurons.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
