Room: EAGLE ROCK SHAMBHALA- Main Shrine Room- 963 Colorado Blvd, 90041

For new and experienced practitioners alike, this all-day community meditation retreat is a rare opportunity to take a real break from our usual routines and the demands of our daily lives to truly relax with ourselves, renew our sense of well being, and wake up to our own worthiness and sanity.

Guided meditation instruction will be given at the very beginning of the day and private interviews will be available upon request with well-qualified meditation instructors throughout the day.  Silence (functional talking when necessary) will be observed throughout the day except during discussion periods. In the afternoon we will view a video teaching on meditation given by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, the head of Shambhala.

To create and maintain a contemplative container that provides maximum benefit to all, retreat participants are expected to commit to stay the whole day.  A simple lunch will be provided with snacks available throughout the day.

The basic schedule is as follows:

8:30    Check-in and coffee/tea

9:00    Welcome, introduction, orientation, group instruction, and morning chants*

9:30    Sitting and walking meditation practice

12:00  Lunch (in the meditation hall)

12:30  Silent break/rest period

1:00   Video and Guided Practice: Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche on Meditation

2:00   Sitting and walking meditation practice

3:30   Tea and Discussion

4:00   Evening chants*

* Chants, all in English, are recited in the morning and evening to create a context for relating wakefully, skillfully and confidently to whatever arises for us during the day. In the morning, they refresh our sense of being related to the source of the teachings, which strengthens our discipline. In the evening, they can help us review our day relative to our noblest aspirations, reset our aspirations for the next day, and dedicate to the benefit of the world whatever we have gained from our practice.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
