Contemplative photography is fearless. It is about expressing a connection to your way of being.

In the strength, energy, and power realized in reflecting upon our state of being, we find moments of incredible appreciation for who and what we are. What if we bring a camera into those moments and fearlessly record what is happening?

Come as you are to Contemplative Creativity Lab with your smart phone camera (or any camera, with battery charged) and we will explore with your instructor, Darryl Burnham, the profundity of contemplative photography.

Darryl Burnham met Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1974 and has been practicing, studying, and teaching since then. He lives in Monrovia with his wife Laura. He is a Shambhala Art teacher, a meditation instructor, contemplative photographer, musician, poet, writer, and co-leader of the Healing Circle. Practicing life constantly expands his intimacy with his teacher, the sangha, and Laura in the company of their two aged cats, Louis and Cali.

Contemplative Creativity Lab alternates between Westside Shambhala and Eagle Rock Shambhala Centers. There will also be occasional Labs at the Orange County Shambhala Center. Please see our webpage: http://la.shambhala.org/ongoing-offerings/creativity-lab/

What is Contemplative Creativity Lab? We are a group of meditation and art practitioners and teachers who lead explorations of the Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Every month is different and have included ink and brush, movement, photography and poetry. What links these is the ground of meditation which allows for fresh perception to be in the forefront, rather than trying to make "art". So, we give meditation instruction and sit for a short time before we move into a meditation-in-activity. Creating from that place of open mind/heart we call "Square One". Please check it out!

Good to bring a notebook or sketchbook.

Doors open at 10:30 am for tea and mingling unless otherwise noted. We often go out for a bite afterwards.

We occasionally offer special All Day Creativity Labs.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
