Carolyn Sykes

Carolyn Sykes is a harpist, and has been performing in Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States for the past 30+ years.  She came to Los Angeles 19 years ago to study for her Masters Degree at the California Institute of the Arts.  Since then she has established her private teaching and performing studio Pacific Harps, a boutique music booking agency Music For Events, and the Los Angeles harp dealership for Camac Harps.  She moved to the US from Australia in 1987, but did not discover Shambhala until 1999 when she came to the center to listen to a week of Khandro Rinpoche’s teachings.  Since then she has held roles in the mandala of the Los Angeles center that include: dekyong, membership director, community mandala director, and coordinated programs from levels to visiting teacher programs.  She is delighted to be able to teach in the Shambhala Art mandala.

Contemplative Creativity Lab alternates between Westside Shambhala and Eagle Rock Shambhala Centers, with occasional Labs at the Orange County Shambhala Center. Please see our webpage:

What is Contemplative Creativity Lab? We are a group of meditation and art practitioners and teachers who lead explorations of the Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Every month is different and have included ink and brush, movement, photography and poetry. What links these is the ground of meditation which allows for fresh perception to be in the forefront, rather than trying to make "art". So, we give meditation instruction and sit for a short time before we move into a meditation-in-activity. Creating from that place of open mind/heart we call "Square One". Please check it out!

Good to bring a notebook or sketchbook.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
