If wisdom can be embodied and manifested in architecture, it would be the stupa. The architecture of the stupa is transformative in nature. It changes the consciousness of all those who come into view of it, orienting them toward the view of basic and ultimate goodness in all things. — Dr. Eva Wong

Rolling mantras is a simple process to learn and everyone is welcome to participate.

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche has asked Karmê Chöling to build a stupa to enable this unique and nurturing practice center to radiate out more fully to the world. As physical representations of the Buddhist ideal of enlightenment, stupas are embodied aspirations for increasing wisdom and compassion in the world. The Stupa That Conquers All Directions that is being built at Karmê Chöling honors the memory and wisdom teachings of the Venerable Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Filled with precious objects and relics of the Vidyadhara, this stupa will radiate the vision of basic goodness and enlightened society throughout our community and world.

Contained within the stupa will be 108,000 tsatsas. Tsatsas are small plaster icons in the form of miniature stupas. Each tsasta has its own life force pole, a mantra rolled around a piece of incense and then wrapped in brocade. This mantra is inserted into each tsatsa during the hand-casting process.

Please join us in rolling mantras that will be placed in the Stupa that Conquers All Directions once it has been built. All materials will be provided, along with instructions on rolling and sealing the mantras. The rolled mantras will then be sent to Karmê Chöling.

The Shambhala Center of Los Angeles remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our community. One of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one be turned away for lack of funds. If you can’t afford a program, please call our office (323-255-5472) to register based on what you can afford. At the same time, the Center relies on program revenue to cover costs. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price, and provides additional support to the Shambhala Center of Los Angeles. Thank you for your kindness!

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
