Art to Greet Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
In preparation for the community day with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, Anne Saitzyk led a contemplative art workshop. For more contemplative art opportunitues, join the Creativity Lab, which takes place the second Saturday of every month at Westside Shambhala.
The inspiration for the Community Art Workshop was Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche coming to town. We wanted to welcome him with an expression of joy from the community, so 17 people came together for a day of slowing down to appreciate our own presence and to work collaboratively. We painted with rags, brushes and mops. When our body, mind, and heart are synchronized with our materials, we can make gestures that are genuine. Using humble materials, we loosen up our perfectionism and connect with the moment. “Art” is really not the point as much as being present for our life.
