Care Teams Make-Up Orientation
On February 2nd SMCLA in Eagle Rock held a free 6-hour Care Teams Orientation. There were many people who wanted to attend but couldn't do so that day. In order to accommodate all who wish to participate, this will be a make-up session. Each person who registers on the website will be sent a link to view a one-hour talk that outlines the Care Teams Model. In this way you can view the talk on your computer at your leisure, and our make-up session will complete your training. It will be essential to view the talk BEFORE coming to the make-up, as it provides the ground for the whole training!
More on Care Teams: This model has been successfully used for years in many communities, including Shambhala. After training, people can choose to be on a Care Team of 6-12 people, all helping to assist someone who is recovering from surgery or has other issues that require assistance. Each member of the team commits to no more than 4 hours per month...doing something they feel good about. This is the underlying reason why such care teams work...no one gets burned out. Sample chores might be picking up groceries, doing light housework, taking the person being helped to the doctor, etc. No medical assistance is given by the team, and no money is donated. Care Teams do not take care of all needs, but they can certainly be helpful!
