  • $100.00
Room: EAGLE ROCK SHAMBHALA- Main Shrine Room

Pre-requisite: being an authorized Meditation Instructor.

Shambhala International encourages all Meditation Instructors to attend. Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche has requested that, throughout the Shambhala community this year, we emphasize meditation instruction as a focus of our work together. Specifically, the Sakyong would like us to use this period of time to train and deepen in Shambhala Meditation by studying his text on Shambhala meditation. Additionally, to prepare for the role of meditation instruction in a societal vision, he asks that we further develop skills of listening and inquiry. As he said, our role is not to teach the students something, but to help them discover something.

The Meditation Instructors Gatherings will include study and contemplation of excerpts of the Shambhala Meditation text, exploring the ways the qualities of gentleness, trust, and caring inform our entire approach to meditation (our own practice, as well as teaching meditation to others). Thus, meditation can be understood as an expression of appreciation for oneself, and the qualities of embodiment, relaxation, kindness and confidence can be communicated.

The SoCal and Southwest United States M.I. Gathering, led by Acharyas Dale Asrael and Susan Chapman, will be held at the Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles in Eagle Rock, beginning on Thursday evening, July 18, 2013 at 6 pm and continuing through the day and evening on Friday and Saturday and ending on Sunday, July 21, at 5pm.

The Program fee is $250 for those who can afford this; $175 is offered as a discounted fee. The fee for scholarhship particants is $100. A $100 deposit is required at registration to hold your place. The fee includes materials.  A light dinner will be available on arrival and a light breakfast will be offered in the mornings. Lunches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are included as well as dinner before the evening session on Saturday.

Please include a message in the notes if you need the discounted fee or need to apply for the scholarship.

If you would like us to try to find housing for you with sangha members, please contact [email protected].

SMCLA Generosity Policy

The Shambhala Center remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our members and program participants, and one of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one should be prevented from participating in programs for lack of funds. At the same time, the Center relies on the revenue from program participants to cover the cost of each program and of keeping our doors open. For programs where there is a set price, if the program price is an obstacle for you, please offer as much of the program price as you can. The suggested minimum, based on the Center’s costs, is 50% of the program price. You may type in the amount on the registration page and pay accordingly. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price of the program, and provides support to the Shambhala Center. If you have any questions, please email la@shambhala.org.

Program Cancellation Policy

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
