There are so many ways to meet people today--internet dating sites, meet-up groups, speed dating, bars and clubs.....Slow Dating is an alternative way to meet other single people.  Meet real people, in real time, face-to face, who share a common interest in meditation.

  • This day long retreat will consist of sitting meditation, discussion, talks, and a chance to meet other single people interested in the path of meditation.
  • It is for all ages and orientations.
  • Topics of discussion will include: making friends with fear, loneliness as a path to awakening, respectful communication, how to engage in the dating world with confidence and kindness.

The day ends with a celebratory reception.

David Fraioli has been practicing and studying the Shambhala teachings since 1999. He began his studies in New York, where he was a co-founder of QueerDharma, a meditation group for the LGBT community.  Before moving to LA, he lived and worked at Karmê Chöling, a retreat center in Vermont, where he worked in the Programs department, coordinating meditation retreats for all levels of practice. He is a meditation instructor, and is on the council of Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles.

Katharine Bainbridge is a Certified Jungian Analyst, long time Shambhala Buddhist practitioner and student of Sakyong Mipham Ripoche.  Ms. Bainbridge recently traveled to Tibet and has a private psychotherapy practice in Encino. She has begun to study the ancient/indigenous wisdom tradition ways of healing psychological "dis-ease".  She also loves to practice Argentinian Tango.

SMCLA Generosity Policy

The Shambhala Center remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our members and program participants, and one of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one should be prevented from participating in programs for lack of funds. At the same time, the Center relies on the revenue from program participants to cover the cost of each program and of keeping our doors open. For programs where there is a set price, if the program price is an obstacle for you, please offer as much of the program price as you can. The suggested minimum, based on the Center’s costs, is 50% of the program price. You may type in the amount on the registration page and pay accordingly. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price of the program, and provides support to the Shambhala Center. If you have any questions, please email la@shambhala.org.

Program Cancellation Policy

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
