Intensive meditation practice enables us to experience a profoundly fresh view of our lives—so precious in this hectic world. Engaging in such practice in a group setting provides powerful support for this process and a rich training ground for the creation of a compassionate society.

Designed for both newcomers and experienced students, this retreat includes sitting and walking meditation, individual interviews and lectures. You are invited to participate for the entire week, for just a day or for several days. Individual day registration is $60.00. Meals are included in the registration price.  On Thanksgiving Day, a complete, traditional turkey dinner will be served. Join the meditation and enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with practitioners.

The retreat will conclude at noon on Sunday, November 25. That afternoon, Acharya Allyn Lyon will conduct refuge and bodhisattva vow ceremonies. If you are considering taking either vow, contact Marilyn Moore, SMCLA Practice Coordinator ([email protected]) for more details.

Full participation in the program will count toward one week of the dathun requirement for Enlightened Society Assembly or the weekthun requirement for Shambhala Guide Training. To receive credit you must register for this program and attend all three sessions daily.

Acharya Allyn Lyon is a senior teacher appointed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and acts as his personal representative in teaching Shambhala and Buddhism. She has served as the Director of Shambhala Mountain Center and has taught at the Vajradhatu Seminary. Acharya Lyon has traveled and taught extensively in Europe, the US, and Mexico, as well as at Naropa University. She is a senior teacher of Maitri Space Awareness program. Acharya Lyon has a special affinity with Los Angeles, where she serves as our Resident Acharya.

SMCLA Generosity Policy

The Shambhala Center remains open because of the ongoing generosity of our members and program participants, and one of the cornerstones of our policy is that no one should be prevented from participating in programs for lack of funds. At the same time, the Center relies on the revenue from program participants to cover the cost of each program and of keeping our doors open. If the program price is an obstacle for you, please offer as much of the program price as you can. The suggested minimum, based on the Center’s costs, is 50% of the program price. You may type in the amount on the registration page and pay accordingly. For those who are able to pay more than the program price, your generosity in paying the Patron Price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price of the program, and provides support to the Shambhala Center. If you have any questions, please email la@shambhala.org.

Program Cancellation Policy

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to your class (and have already paid), you will receive a full refund less a processing fee of $15. If you cancel between 1 to 7 days prior to arrival, we will credit your payment towards another program at Shambhala Los Angeles to be used within 1 year. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations received fewer than 24 hours prior to arrival.
