Daily life greets us every morning with the prospect of what we have to do, where we are expected to go, what tasks we have yet to complete, and a plethora of other challenges and opportunities.  Do we wake up anxious about what awaits us? Or do we joyfully arise to meet the day with inquisitiveness and confidence?

Meditation provides a way to relax and open to the demands and possibilities of our lives.  Through the practice of meditation we can discover our cheerfulness and overcome hesitation.

Shastri Pamela Bothwell began her study and practice of Shambhala Buddhism in 1973.  She has served as co-director of the New York Shambhala Center; Head of Practice and Study at Karme-Chöling; Head of Study at the San Francisco Shambhala Center; Ambassador to the Los Angeles Shambhala Center; and Co-Director of the Los Angeles Shambhala Center. A retired attorney and mother of three young adult children, she has been married for 30 years.  In 2010, she was appointed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche as Shastri (senior teacher) for Los Angeles.

Shambhala is an international community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and now led by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. Learn about our vision, lineage & community. More →
