Dear Members and Friends of the Los Angeles Shambhala Community:
The Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles is pleased and excited to invite you to a gala event at our new Westside location while it is still taking shape. The new space(s) will play a crucial part in the SMCLA's programming and community activities for years to come. As you have probably noticed, our current space in Santa Monica has been stretched beyond its limit, particularly on weekends, and it will be extremely helpful to have a larger and more flexible Westside location -- especially since it has good parking!
Sakyong Mipham has told us that Southern California should have one center that is our hub (Eagle Rock) and satellite centers in a variety of locations. The Westside satellite is our most fully developed, and now that we will have a larger and more stable location there, we look forward to further growth in our ability to offer a wide range of programs and activities.
For the past six years, the SMCLA has operated on the Westside in locations chosen by the Santa Monica Zen Center and built out to their specifications. Although those locations have served us well enough that we could develop a thriving Westside community, they have had some significant limitations that constrained how far the community could develop. Moving into a larger space and building it out to our own specifications is a big leap and a considerable expense -- an investment in our future. Much of this expense has already been covered by the inspired generosity of our community, but there are still opportunities to make a contribution.
The new location will be under construction until later in June, but you are warmly invited to come eat, drink, have fun, enjoy one another, and just be present in the emerging space. We sincerely look forward to joining with you there.
