Los Angeles Dorje Kasung 2006 Highlights By Laura Burnham The year 2006 was an especially formative one for those of us in the Dorje Kasung. The Kasung are the folks you see taking a post near the shrine room door or in the reception area. They guide visitors, answer questions, maintain an awareness of situational safety and also drive and attend our visiting teachers. The Kasung hold the container to create a safe space so that all of us may have full access to the teachings. The LA sangha welcomed seven new Dorje Kasung members who took the one-year oath at our muster in April: Guy Blume, James Crank, Jane Mi, Stephanie Miller, Mike Monsell, Dan Rubin, and Miguel Sawaya. Kelly MacLean took the lifetime oath. Several Kasung classes were also held this year: The Essential Heart of Kasungship in March, Contemplating the Eight Slogans in July, and two Driver Training Days in the fall. These will be offered again. In addition to our regular duties, a number of Dorje Kasung were involved in special programs this year, such as taking posts and driving for Sakyong Mipham, Rinpoche and His Eminence Namkha Drimed, Rinpoche and his entourage. Special service was also provided for President Reoch during his visit in November. And we congratulate our new Kasung Dan Rubin, who participated in the Mogyal Pomra Encampment during the summer at Shambhala Mountain Center. Please contact our Rusung, Darryl Burnham, at 626-303-0945 with any and all questions about the Dorje Kasung. Ki Ki So So! |
