The International Social Action Film Festival
Returning to Los Angeles to Launch Its Second Season for 3 Nights of Short Films & feature-length documentaries
Presented by Legacy XXI Institute &
the Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles
After playing in 9 countries and 16 cities, the International Social Action Film Festival, founded in Southern California, is completing its first year of operation and will launch its second year with a return to Los Angeles, October 10, 24 and November 7.
Dedicated solely to helping support and sustain the efforts of local and international social action organizations through film, ISAFF has touched communities around the world from Los Angeles to Lahore, Pakistan to Monrovia, Liberia to Syracuse, NY. Where ever this collection of local and international films has been shown, audiences recognize the efforts going on around them, and become engaged.
Over the three nights of the festival, ISAFF will feature a variety of films, from short shorts to feature length documentaries. All of the films screened highlight the remarkable and often selfless work of local and international social action organizations and the efforts they are making within our communities. These films are a heartening and uplifting testament to our ability to help others and realize our connection to our community. One of the two feature-length, award-winning documentaries to be screened during the festival -- War Dance -- will show once only on October 24th. This moving story of the struggles and resilience of children living in a Ugandan war region and their remarkable presence in a national performance competition demonstrates the powerful impact our actions can have on the most difficult situations.

About ISAFF
ISAFF was founded by Ron Schultz, after working as a consultant for social entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurial organizations. It was not his intent to become one of them. But after working with Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, and being influenced by its founder Bill Drayton’s perspective on sustaining social action organizations, the International Social Action Film Festival was born. Drayton puts forward that there is a four-fold process to support and sustain these activities that combines: Income Generation, Partnerships, Volunteers, and an ability to Get the Word Out. After holding festivals in 9 countries in 12 months, ISAFF is working harder than ever to get the word out and now it’s coming home.
Beyond its impact on its audiences, what is probably even more impressive about ISAFF is that it has all been accomplished with donations of about $5500.00. And in addition, it was done with 80% of all donated proceeds (there are not ticket sales, only donations) being returned to local social action organizations that have supported the festival in their communities and whose films have been screened.
This has been a remarkable story of building it and they will come. If you are interested in this story, we would love to speak with you. We would love to get the word out to the entire LA community about the ISAFF story, that we will be launching our second year of operations in LA, and how people can participate and come view the films.
