From the Directors

April 3, 2008

Noble Sangha,

Earlier this week, escrow closed on the property we occupy in Eagle Rock. As many of you know, the property had been on the market for some time. The new owner stopped by to see SMCLA and meet some of the community last Tuesday. He seems keen to keep the property in good condition, even to improve it. As you may also know, we have a lease through November 2010.

Our plan, therefore, is largely unchanged by this event, and we'll soon be forming a new building search task force and begin to explore the options of finding and purchasing or leasing our next space.

When we met with The Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche at SMCLA a few months ago, he was delighted with the way our membership has grown since moving to Eagle Rock and, knowing the property was up for sale, was clear in his interest that we remain in the area. Years ago Eva Wong, under direction from The Sakyong, identified this swath of land along the San Gabriel mountains as a place where precious energies pool, sparking our confidence and compassion, and enabling our community to flourish.

We are also commited to support the continued development of our Westside community and to take our first steps toward planting Shambhala Buddhism in Orange County.

We'll certainly need your inspiration and perspiration in embracing these marvelous opportunties to present the buddhadharma and cultivate enlightened society, and are so delighted we can work to embrace them with all of you.

Yours in the vision of Great Eastern Sun,

Melanie and Joel
