AWAKENED HEART

A five week course beginning February 19

with Tom Gottlieb and Anne Saitzyk

$75 donation

Through meditation and seeing our basic nature, we are able to drop the inward struggle, extend out, and see all experience without the overlay of our own concepts. The experience of basic nature brings more warmth and openness, then leads to a connection with a spiritual friend who is an inspiration and example for real compassion and true warriorship, which is practicing and living for the benefit of others.

THURSDAY EVENINGS @ 7:30pm

THE MYTH OF FREEDOM

Talk 4 - "Meditation in Action ," Thursday, May 8

Talk 5 - "The Open Way," Thursday, June 12

Talk 6 - "Devotion" Thursday, July 10

Pema Chödrön teaches from Chogyam Trungpa's famous text: "The Myth Of Freedom." This six talk commentary is Pema's most recent seminar.

Pema Chödrön is a fully ordained nun and the main teacher at Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia, Canada. She first met her main teacher, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1972 and studied with him until his death in 1987. Trungpa Rinpoche's unique ability to express the essence of Buddhist teachings in the language and imagery of Contemporary American culture makes "The Myth of Freedom" one of the best sources of Buddhist doctrine ever written. In this book, Trungpa explores how our attitudes and preconceptions bind us to repetitive patterns of frustration and despair. He also explains how meditation can bring into focus the causes of frustration and how these negative forces can aid us toward advancing toward true freedom.

NEW! An opportunity to practice before the program is now offered. Meditation will start at 6:30pm and end at 7:15pm. Feel free to come sit for any part of those 45 minutes before we view the video at 7:30pm.

This program is hosted by Lynda Golan and Stanley Weiser. Lynda is a licensed psychotherapist, a trained meditation instructor, and an artist/painter. Stanley is a senior student of Trungpa Rinpoche, and an award-winning writer for screen (Wall Street) and television who has worked with Oliver Stone, Robert DeNiro and James Woods, among many others. Meditation instruction will be available, and the tapes will be followed by group discussion.
