Shambhala Arts Festival
“Art in Everyday Life”
The Shambhala Arts Festival is a celebration of the principles of Shambhala art or art that springs from the meditative state of mind. Shambhala Art is based on a remarkable body of teachings that Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche gave, exploring the uniqueness of everyday sensory experiences. The profound simplicity of seeing things as they are provides the ground for genuine creative expression.
The Shambhala Arts Festival is an international event that marks the spring equinox. The entire Shambhala community and friends of Shambhala are invited to celebrate art forms of all genres that incorporate the True Perception teaching of the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. These teachings encourage the artist to create works that awakens the viewer and the artist to a sense of purity within the phenomenal world.
"Dharma art is not purely about art and life alone. It has to do with how we handle ourselves altogether: how we hold a glass of water, how to put it down, how we hold a note card and make it into a sacred scepter, how we can sit on a chair, how we can work with a table, how we can do anything." -- Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. True Perception: The Path of Dharma Art, pg. 145
Festival events include performance pieces, art exhibitions, video presentations, field trips, talks and demonstrations. Examples of previous festival celebrations can be found at : www.shambhalaart.org under the link Shambhala Art Day.
